Traveling to Genealogies: A RaceB4Race Symposium

COVID-19 safety

U of T’s COVID planning updates

RaceB4Race: Genealogies will be held at Seely Hall, Trinity College, University of Toronto; this room has large windows for cross-ventilation (weather permitting). We ask conference attendees to mask indoors. Please plan (and pack!) accordingly.

The reception following the keynote will be held in an indoor/outdoor space.

Venue and local transit

Trinity College is located at 6 Hoskin Avenue, Toronto; familiarize yourself with the campus map and transit information here.

The opening reception will be held at St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto.

Parking

Parking is very scarce on the University of Toronto campus. Even if you are driving to Toronto, we recommend parking at your hotel and taking transit or taxis to campus itself. The U of T is serviced by both major subway lines in the city, as well as several trams.

Conference hotel

A block of rooms is reserved for conference attendees at the Holiday Inn Express, 111 Lombard Street, Toronto ON, M5C 2T9. Reserve your room here.

Please reserve your room by August 21. The room block will be released after this date.

Note that the link above takes you to the main website rather than a specific conference booking link. However, when you plug in the dates of the conference (22-24 September), the code should automatically pop up and the discounted rate becomes available.

Getting to Toronto

Toronto had two major airports: Pearson International (YYZ) or Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ).

Billy Bishop is a 10-minute cab ride from the conference hotel.

If you are coming into Pearson, there is an affordable train from the airport to downtown Toronto, or taxis to central Toronto will cost ~$60-70 CAD. Note that if you are flying out of Pearson or Billy Bishop to return, you will need to clear customs before you board your flight. Please leave extra time to get through security as well as customs.

Air Canada and Porter Airlines (i.e., Canadian airlines) have retained their mask mandates.

You no longer need a COVID test to enter Canada; however at the moment you do need to complete the ArriveCAN app within 72 hours before arriving in Canada. On this app, you will be asked to confirm that you are fully vaccinated (2 doses) and provide proof. See here: https://www.canada.ca/en/border-services-agency/services/arrivecan.html
